A plurality of infrared hot spot detectors (30) are mounted on swinging arms (32) in the air inlet duct (18) of a rotary regenerative air preheater (10) whereby the arms pivot so that each detector will scan a section of the rotor to detect hot spots. The temperature of the detectors is closely controlled by a water cooled heat sink (52) a thermoelectric cooler (74) detector plate (82) and controls the thermoelectric cooler (74).

Why it's free to use
- Filed November 25, 1994 and granted November 2, 1999. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended November 25, 2014.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by November 25, 2016.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
