A shoe sole having a co-molded anti-skid insert is provided. Raw unvulcanized rubber sheet material for the insert, and raw unvulcanized rubber sheet material for the main portion of the sole are placed in a mold and heated to fuse them together to, vulcanize the rubber, and to produce an anti-skid pattern on the insert. The material of the insert is preferably substantially the same as that of the main portion of the sole, except for its color; however it, has the appearance and texture of a separate insert.

Why it's free to use
- Filed June 25, 1996 and granted August 27, 2002. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended June 25, 2016.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by June 25, 2018.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
