Organic contaminants of solid particles especially oil in, drill cuttings, are removed by passing the contaminated particles into a processing chamber (1), usually having an inert atmosphere generating a circumferentially directed flow of fluid within the chamber (1) to cause the particles to circulate in the chamber (1) in a turbulent compact band, converting the organic contaminants into a gaseous material and removing particles substantially free from organic contaminants from the chamber (1). Preferably the gaseous material is cooled in one or especially two stages to separate high boiling organic liquids first and water and other organic liquids second.

Why it's free to use
- Filed December 19, 1994. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended December 19, 2014.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by December 19, 2016.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
