Abstract From the Canadian patent

A method and apparatus (10) for determining at least one characteristic of a formation is provided which includes storing a plurality of counts received from both a long space radiation detector (12) and a short space radiation detector (14). The counts are detected during a plurality of short duration time periods which are brief compared to rotary drilling speed, A count rate mean is determined and used to sort each of the plurality of count measurements into one of at least three bins Count information, accumulated in at least one of the bins is used to calculate a corrected density. A short space collimator (20) enhances the count rate of singly scattered gamma rays detected by the …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed December 7, 1994 and granted March 11, 2003. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended December 7, 2014.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by December 7, 2016.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
