A method for shifting a powershift transmission of a vehicle in accordance with the load being experienced by the engine as estimated from certain engine operating parameters. A turbocarger associated with an engine operating at a given engine speed generates a turbo boost pressure. The turbo boost pressure is monitored by a sensor and a turbo boost signal is generated therefrom. Similarly the engine speed is monitored by a sensor and an engine speed signal is generated therefrom. The turbo boost and engine speed signals are used to estimate the engine load based on empirical data stored in the transmission controller's memory and a percentage load is computed therefrom. The percentage load …

Why it's free to use
- Filed May 24, 1996 and granted November 30, 1999. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended May 24, 2016.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by May 24, 2018.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
