A fluid sampling device which collects the initial sample of a fluid stream, discards it and collects a mid-stream sample for future analysis. When used for the collection of urine the initial sample is collected in a, hopper which after collecting the initial sample rotates from a first positionto a second position and discards some of the initial sample. While in its second position, a surface of the hopper diverts the mid-stream sample to the container for collection of the sample.

Why it's free to use
- Filed November 24, 1994 and granted May 15, 2001. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended November 24, 2014.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by November 24, 2016.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
