Output signals are served from a serving device to a plurality of browsing devices connected to a network. The output signals represent commands executable by each browsable device so as to display viewable data in accordance with specified page formatting. Requests from browsing clients are identified which contain information relating to the data itself and the display format for the data. The data is read and processed so as to combine a representation of the viewable data with executable instructions. The signals are then supplied to requesting browsing devices, after effectively being assembled as a real time online process.

Why it's free to use
- Filed May 14, 1996 and granted September 30, 2003. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended May 14, 2016.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by May 14, 2018.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
