An address generator (26) for a solid state disk drive device includes a hardware multiplier logic circuit dedicated to computation of the address by multiplying a block size by a logical block number (50) to obtain the start address for a memory array read or write operation. The dedicated multiplier circuit advantageously provides very quick computation of these relatively large numbers which typically involves, 32 bit by 16 bit multiplication. The multiplier includes a shift register initially holding the logical block number which is shifted a particular number of times, the number of shift pulses representing a value of the block length. The output of the shift register is the desired …

Why it's free to use
- Filed November 18, 1994 and granted January 22, 2002. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended November 18, 2014.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by November 18, 2016.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
