Abstract From the Canadian patent

A power converter and controller system for a motor using an inductive load such as a switched reluctance motor, which provides enhanced motor performance. The improved power converter and controller system accomplishes this by using a return bus having a storage device for storing energy. A controller monitors both the in the inductive lo?? and the energy stored in the storage device and dynamically controls the storage device and the inductive load to dynamically control the current in the inductive load and the voltage on the storage device.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed May 8, 1996 and granted August 3, 1999. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended May 8, 2016.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by May 8, 2018.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
