A bodyboard (50) with skins (56, 58) covering the top and bottom surfaces of a foam plank that forms a core (52) in the bodyboard. The top skin (56) is prepared by heat-expanding a foamable matrix layer having a polyolefin film deposited on the top surface of the matrix layer. With the application of heat, the matrix layer becomes a foam and the polyolefin film softens and integrates with the foam. Graphics carried internally on the film become an integral part of the foam.

Why it's free to use
- Filed September 23, 1994 and granted October 26, 1999. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended September 23, 2014.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by September 23, 2016.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
