A coating composition is described comprising a polymer resin binder and optically variable thin film pigment flakes. The pigment flakes have a multilayer thin film interference structure comprising a metal reflector layer having first and second parallel planar surfaces and, disposed on at least one of said first and second planar surfaces at least one transparent dielectric layer. The pigment flakes further have an average particle size of 5 to 40 µm and a particle size distribution where no more than 10 % of the particles have a particle size of greater than 50 µm and substantially none of the particles have a particle size of greater than 125 µm. This coating composition can be used to …

Why it's free to use
- Filed December 5, 1994 and granted August 19, 2003. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended December 5, 2014.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by December 5, 2016.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
