An improved sealing material for use as a gasket and in similar applications is disclosed. The material is constructed from a composite of comformable expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) and embedded densified expanded PTFE material. The composite is bonded together to form a sheet material that is sufficiently conformable to provide good seal between surfaces and is sufficiently rigid to make the material easy to handle and install. The material of the present invention is particularly suitable for use as a gasket where rigidity is needed, customization or modification of gasket shape is desirable and/or where a wide, even sealing surface is sought.

Why it's free to use
- Filed December 13, 1994 and granted October 24, 2000. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended December 13, 2014.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by December 13, 2016.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
