Abstract From the Canadian patent

A new speaker verification method, termed Mixture Decomposition Discrimination, (MDD) and a new apparatus for using MDD are presented. MDD takes mixture component score information from a speaker independent recognizer and transmits this information while it is still decomposed as a mixture of component scores that indicate the response of the states of the HMM before this information is combined into a single speaker independent recognizer parameter. MDD can be veryeffective in improving the performance of existing verification methods based onspeaker dependent HMMs with cohort normalization because the errors of the two speaker verification methods are very uncorrelated statistically. …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed April 2, 1996 and granted January 2, 2001. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended April 2, 2016.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by April 2, 2018.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
