Abstract From the Canadian patent

A method and means for detection of an acute myocardilal infarction (AMI) in a patient are provided. The method involves sampling of a patient's peripheral blood, quantifying the level of monocyte platelet conjugates (MP-C) and determining whether a significant increase in monocyte platelet conjugates is present. Quantification can be achieved by direct counting of monocyte platelet conjugates on a slide or a microscope, by instrumentation measuring apparent monocyte cell volume increases flow cytometry, or cell counter employing electrical resistance pulse sizing or light scattering. Diagoostic test kits for detecting an AMI are also provided.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed September 28, 1994 and granted August 19, 2003. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended September 28, 2014.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by September 28, 2016.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
