Abstract From the Canadian patent

Method and arrangement for measuring an electric current with two opposing light signals, using the Faraday effect For measuring an electric current (I) in a current conductor (2), two opposing light signals (S T) are, transmitted through a Faraday element (3) surrounding the current conductor (2) and, after the passage through the Faraday element (3), are split, respectively into two partial, light signals. From these partial light signals an, intensity-normalized signal (PS, PT) is derived for each partial light signal (S, T). Provision is made of a Faraday element (3) having a negligible circular birefringence and a, signal processing unit for deriving a vibration-independent and …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed September 21, 1994 and granted November 14, 2000. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended September 21, 2014.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by September 21, 2016.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
