A cylindrical heat retaining brick, including a core made of curable heat retaining cement and an outer layer made of a rigid moisture-absorbent material is disclosed. The outer layer is rigid enough so that the cement forming the core may be poured. The outer layer draws moisture from the cement by capillary effect and is used to indicate when the cement is fully cured.

Why it's free to use
- Filed March 29, 1996 and granted March 18, 1997. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended March 29, 2016.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by March 29, 2018.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
