Polyurethane foams having improved flame retardant properties employing small quantities of halogenated polyaromatic resin flameretardant additive have been discovered. Brominated polystyrene resin is particularly preferred. The additives may be physically suspended in the polyol prior to reaction with a polyisocyanate in the presence of a polyurethane catalyst in a conventional manner to produce improved polyurethane foams. The additives are not chemically bound to other components in the foam, such as the polyol. Because small quantities of dle additives are used, the physical properties of the foams are not adversely affected by their presence.

Why it's free to use
- Filed November 29, 1994. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended November 29, 2014.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by November 29, 2016.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
