In switching devices in which current contacts are made by actuating a magnetic armature, the test may include an analysis of vibrations or sound emitted in operating conditions. According to the invention the sound emitted by, the switching device when it is actuated is detected by a sensor and transmitted to an evaluation device for the discrimination of the time and/or frequency curve of individual sound components. It is possible in particular with the proposed process to discriminate between the sound signals produced by the making of the contacts and the armature. In addition, a sound analysis in the suitable time range permits a classification of any faults in the switching device. …

Why it's free to use
- Filed May 18, 1993 and granted July 31, 2001. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended May 18, 2013.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by May 18, 2015.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
