A device for safely storing pool cues between plays to help prevent accidental damage to the cues and which is small enough to be carried easily and readily and quickly attaches to and detaches from any convenient edged surface such as a tabletop is comprised of a generalized "C" clamp having a spring loaded clamping rod. The rod is pulled out of the clamp body by means of a rod handle against the action of a compression spring compressing the spring and creating a gap between the end of the rod and one end of the clamp body.
