Abstract From the Canadian patent

The acceleration applied to a selected device such as a magnetic disc drive system can be detected by the use of an acceleration detector having at least one piezoelectric acceleration sensor unit. The sensor unit includes a piezoelectric element, a supporting member for the piezoelectric element and two electrical leads. The piezoelectric element is formed with a pair of elongate sheets made of a piezoelectric ceramic and an intermediate insulation layer interposed between the elongate sheets to generate a voltage difference instantaneously therebetween in response to the acceleration of the acceleration detector. The support member is made of an electrically insulating resin and has a …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed November 18, 1994 and granted September 22, 1998. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended November 18, 2014.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by November 18, 2016.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
