Abstract From the Canadian patent

Apparatus for inductively heating metal can lids (50) includes high-permeability low-conductivity cores (10, 12, 14) having at least two magnetically opposite polar portions (20 22, 24) both directed toward a conveyance path (16) for the can lids (50). High-frequency AC currents (68) are applied to the windings (60 62, 64) of the cores (10, 12, 14), thereby inducing AC heating currents in the can lids (50) and heating them sufficiently to drive off moisture. The cores (10 12, 14) may be E-shaped, and may, be disposed in modules at various longitudinal positions along the conveyance path (16). Closed-loop temperature control apparatus may also be included to prevent overheating of the can …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed May 8, 1992 and granted July 14, 1998. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended May 8, 2012.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by May 8, 2014.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
