Abstract From the Canadian patent

This invention involves a process of hydrocyanation of ethenoid unsaturated nitriles into saturated dinitriles particularly the hydrocyanation of pentenenitriles into adiponitrile one of the basic compounds in the production of polyamide 66. More specifically it involves a process of hydrocyanation of an ethenoid unsaturated aliphatic nitrile by reaction with hydrocyanic acid in the presence of an aqueous solution of a catalyst consisting of a transition metal compound and a sulphonated phosphine. The process is characterized by the fact that the solution in question also contains a cocatalyst consisting of at least one Lewis acid.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed November 2, 1994 and granted August 11, 1998. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended November 2, 2014.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by November 2, 2016.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
