A sterile wound packing and package therefor is provided, which wound packing is in the form of a gauze or similar absorbent material and may be impregnated with a partially or substantially dehydrated hydrogel material for absorbing wound exudate. The wound packing is capable for absorbing large amounts of wound exudate without inhibiting the healing of the wound to which it is contacted and without the need for additional backing or adhesive layers. The wound packing also has a pliable, soft structure which permits the packing to be applied to wounds having irregular shapes and depths.

Why it's free to use
- Filed November 1, 1994. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended November 1, 2014.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by November 1, 2016.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
