An enhanced parallel port interface increases the bandwidth of a standard parallel port connector while at the same time maintaining backward compatibility with a standard parallel port interface. In order to increase the data transfer rate the sof-, tware overhead is substantially reduced by hardware generated signals. As such, the desirability of using a parallel port bus expansion is greatly increased.

Why it's free to use
- Filed May 14, 1993 and granted July 30, 2002. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended May 14, 2013.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by May 14, 2015.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
