Abstract From the Canadian patent

Hybrid polymers of epoxy resins are provided by polymerizing ethylenically unsaturated monomer in the presence of epoxy resin using a combination of oil soluble and water soluble surfactants in separate organic and aqueous phases, respectively made up prior to combining under, polymerizing conditions. The organic phase contains the monomer and epoxy resin and oil soluble surfactant while the aqueous phase contains water and the water soluble surfactant. Initiator systems can be included in the organic phase or added independently to the reaction mixture. The resulting hybrid epoxy polymer exhibits excellent properties when applied as a protective film or adhesive, and aqueous dispersions of …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed October 6, 1994 and granted April 25, 2000. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended October 6, 2014.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by October 6, 2016.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
