Amino acid and nucleotide sequences for hemagglutinin and fusion glycoproteins of several wild-type measles strains are provided, and shared amino acid variations in wild-type measles glycoproteins are identified in five wild-type measles viruses. A consensus polypeptide, the amino acid sequence of which reflects variation common to more than one wild-type strain, is the basis for constructing live attenuated vaccines, or recombinant vaccines to replace older less, efficacious vaccines. Immunological reagents useful in differentiating wild-type measles strains from other known strains also can be produced.

Why it's free to use
- Filed April 8, 1993. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended April 8, 2013.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by April 8, 2015.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
