Abstract From the Canadian patent

A boot jack for gripping a boot to assist a user in removal of the user's foot therefrom, the jack comprising a frame and a plate secured to the frame, the plate having a U-shaped notch for receiving and gripping the boot above the user's heel. The improvement is characterized in that the plate is supported on the frame in an orientation and at a sufficient height above a base on which the frame is supported, to permit the user's toes and the front of the boot to press against the base as a fulcrum to facilitate removal of the user's foot from the boot by means of plantar flexion when the boot is gripped in the U-shaped notch.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed September 19, 1994 and granted December 7, 1999. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended September 19, 2014.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by September 19, 2016.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
