An improved cashbox which may be used to replace the coinbox 2 on conventional newspaper vending machines including, but not limited to K-80 type display racks. The, cashbox includes a housing having a front wall and two side walls extending from the front wall. A substantially L-shaped removable service plate covers a back portion and a top portion of the housing when the service plate is in a closed position. The side walls of the housing have notched corners at a top of the back portion of the housing for supporting the service plate in an open position.
