The package is a sleeve with an internal passage in which a portion of an optical fiber is placed. The optical fiber and the sleeve are made of materials with coefficients of thermal expansion that are the same or different. If the coefficients of thermal expansion are the same the package, protects the fiber from certain strains brought about by a change in temperature that would otherwise result if the package and the fiber were made of different materials. Why it's free to use
- Filed August 19, 1994 and granted August 25, 1998. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended August 19, 2014.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by August 19, 2016.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
