Abstract From the Canadian patent

A method of forming a gel in a subsurface formation is provided whereby a self crosslinking monomer selected from hydroxy unsaturated carbonyl compounds is polymerized in the formation by a suitable initiator. In a preferred embodiment the initiator is selected from azo compounds which are temperature activated over a range of temperatures. The method is particularly useful to substantially terminate or at least decrease the flow of water from a subterranean formation into a wellbore penetrating the formation.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed August 15, 1994. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended August 15, 2014.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by August 15, 2016.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
