Abstract From the Canadian patent

Using normal construction procedures, a polyethylene film is placed on behind the interior surface of an exterior wall in order to act as both a vapourand air barrier. Problems are encountered when there is a requirement to installelectrical gang boxes in these areas. Using standard construction methods both, the air barrier and the vapour barrier are compromised at any point in an exterior wall where an electrical box has been installed. This invention is a single piece high density rigid insulating foam unit which when installed around an, electrical gang box provides an effective vapour and air barrier.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed July 29, 1994. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended July 29, 2014.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by July 29, 2016.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
