A de-icer for attachment to an airfoil subject to impingement by an air stream. The airstream induces a stagnation line near the leading edge of the airfoil. The de-icer has inflatable passages that: are parallel to the airstream overlying the airfoil on one side of the stagnation line, and inflatable passages that are parallel to the leading edge overlying the airfoil on the other side of the stagnation line. The de-icer maintains the aerodynamic characteristics of the airfoil during de-icer inflation. A method of manufacturing the de-icer is also provided.

Why it's free to use
- Filed July 28, 1994. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended July 28, 2014.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by July 28, 2016.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
