A method for providing a flexible method for applying computationally significant association information in graphical input systems to information data using unrecognized visual information is disclosed. A method is provided to mark and index user-produced information with special information designators called key objects which can later be used as access mechanisms into the user-produced notes without recognition of, the notes. Visually recognizable but computationally unrecognized, image segments are designated key objects. A key object is assigned a unique identifier that is computationally distinguishable from other key object identifiers. Key objects are associated with other data …

Why it's free to use
- Filed July 28, 1994 and granted August 31, 1999. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended July 28, 2014.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by July 28, 2016.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
