Abstract From the Canadian patent

Disclosed is a normally solid, high molecular weight non-linear, substantially gel-free, propylene polymer material characterized by high melt strength due to strain hardening which is believed to be caused by free-end long chain branches of the molecular chains forming the polymer. Also disclosed is a process for making the polymer by high energy radiation of a normally solid high molecular, weight, linear, propylene polymer in a reduced active oxygen environment, maintaining the irradiated material in such environment for a specific period of time and then, deactivating free radicals in the material. Further disclosed is the use of the strain hardening polymer in extensional flow …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed July 14, 1994 and granted December 31, 2002. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended July 14, 2014.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by July 14, 2016.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
