Abstract From the Canadian patent

Peptides containing a biological-function domain and a medically useful metal ion-binding domain and proteins containing monosulfide or disulfide bonds are labeled with medically useful metal ions for use in diagnosis and treatment of a variety of pathologic conditions. The peptides have the amino acid sequence (R1)-Y1n- (R2), (R1)-Y1-(R2)-Y1n-(R3), and, (R1)-Y1-(R2)-Y2n-(R3) with the biological-function domain optionally containing the sequence IKVAV and YIGSR. The medically useful metal ion-binding domain is Y1n Y1-(R2)-Y1n or Y1-(R2)-, Y1n. Sn(II) agents are used to label the proteins with medically useful metal ions.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed December 31, 1992 and granted February 5, 2002. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended December 31, 2012.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by December 31, 2014.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
