Abstract From the Canadian patent

A diagnostic system for diagnosing states of circuit elements is described, wherein scannable circuits can be scanned without disturbing the state of unscannable circuits of violating protocols of busses on which unscannable devices are attached. One unscannable device is a standardized microprocessor. A processor interface circuit is coupled between the microprocessor and scannable processor circuits via a, processor bus, to insulate the scannable processor circuits from the unscannable microprocessor. The processor interface circuit is also scannable, including memory elements which affect the bus, by preventing a scan when the bus is in use. A scan is prevented through the use of a …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed June 21, 1994 and granted October 13, 1998. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended June 21, 2014.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by June 21, 2016.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
