In an arrangement for mounting an elevator machine in a building, a mounting beam is fixed to the building structure, either at the top of the elevator shaft or, within a machine room above the elevator shaft. The elevator machine is mounted below, and suspended from the, mounting beam in such a manner that the centre of gravity of the machine, and the centroid of application of the rope forces to the traction sheave of the machine are located, at or near the neutral axis of the beam.

Why it's free to use
- Filed June 20, 1994 and granted August 25, 1998. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended June 20, 2014.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by June 20, 2016.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
