Abstract From the Canadian patent

An atherectomy catheter device (10) provided with an improved high speed rotating cutting head (17) is disclosed in which the cutting head has a generally ovalshaped nose portion which includes a plurality of radially disposed excising openings (24) extending along and rearward from a point near the center of the nose. The openings are elongated but do not extend beyond the elliptical portion of reduced diameter and, therefore, do not damage the lining of the vessel involved.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed December 2, 1992 and granted April 28, 1998. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended December 2, 2012.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by December 2, 2014.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
