An improved zone valve is provided in which a motor-driven actuator assembly rotates a ball valve through about a 90° rotation, between a first normal, position, and an opposite position e.g. between closed, and opened positions. The actuator assembly includes a torsional spring configured to be tightened as the ball valve is rotated by the motor from its normal position to the opposite position. When the motor is de-energized the spring provides a restoring torque that is sufficient to overcome the resisting frictional torque of the ball valve and inertia and friction of the de-energized motor causing the drive shaft to rotate counter to the direction of rotation of the motor, thereby …

Why it's free to use
- Filed June 6, 1994 and granted January 18, 2000. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended June 6, 2014.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by June 6, 2016.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
