A magnetic resonance imaging apparatus includes a magnet system for producing a homogeneous magnetic field along the z axis. A plurality of wire conductors are arranged in a "bird cage" or "squirrel cage" configuration and are supplied with a circularly rotating RF field centered near the Larmor frequency .omega.o. The wire conductors also receive a voltage source V p having a frequency .omega.p which is less than, the Larmor frequency. The voltage source V p is rotated about the wire conductors at a frequency of .omega.~ which is, much less than the frequency .omega.p to successively apply the, voltage V p to each pair of diametrically opposed wire conductors in a manner which is ordered …

Why it's free to use
- Filed May 30, 1994 and granted July 4, 2000. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended May 30, 2014.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by May 30, 2016.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
