In the Bayer process for producing alumina from bauxite the, efficiency of the red mud separation procedure can be substantially improved if the flocculant (45) normally used is diluted with a clear process liquor (43c) obtained from a prior the same or a, subsequent settling or washing step and mixing this diluted flocculant solution with the red mud slurry (41) to be separated. This permits the use of less flocculant than conventional methods the, avoidance of diluting with water and the production of a thickened slurry of increased mud concentration.

Why it's free to use
- Filed December 22, 1992. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended December 22, 2012.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by December 22, 2014.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
