An improved apparatus is provided to protect an electrical device in a vehicle against transient changes in voltage provided by a power source. The transient voltage protector is connected with a conductor which conducts current from the power source to the electrical device. The transient voltage protector responds to the rate of change of voltage in the conductor to shunt at least a portion of the electrical current in the conductor away from the electrical device when the rate of change of voltage in the conductor exceeds a predetermined rate. The transient voltage protector includes a high pass filter which provides an output signal when the rate of change of voltage in the conductor …

Why it's free to use
- Filed May 27, 1994 and granted February 8, 2000. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended May 27, 2014.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by May 27, 2016.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
