The present invention discloses the use of polymers which have built-in by polymerization 20 to 70%-wt. of a hydrophobic monomer selected from long-chain alpha-olefins, long-chain alkyl(meth)acrylates vinyl esters, of long-chain carboxylic acids long-chain vinyl, ethers, or mixtures of these monomers 1 to 60%-wt. of a monomer with a specific polysiloxane group, and 20 to 35%-wt. water-soluble unsaturated, acids, unsaturated C4 - C6 dicarboxylic anhydrides semi-esters or semi-amides of unsaturated C4 - C6 di-carboxylic acids, or mixtures of these monomers in partially newtralized form as aqueous solution or dispersion, for softening, fat-liquoring and greasing, or hydrophobing leathers and …

Why it's free to use
- Filed November 24, 1992 and granted February 10, 1998. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended November 24, 2012.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by November 24, 2014.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
