Abstract From the Canadian patent

A catalytic converter is described having two or more matrices (10a, 10b) each defining passages for the exhaust gases and carrying particles of a catalyst. The matrices (10a 10b) are arranged, in series with one another in the direction of flow of exhaust gases through the converter. A chamber (16) disposed between the two matrices (10a, 10b) contains an igniter (18) for igniting the exhaust gases in the chamber to form an afterburner for heating the second of the matrices (10b) so as to reduce the time taken for the second of the two matrices to reach its light-off temperature.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed October 12, 1992. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended October 12, 2012.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by October 12, 2014.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
