Abstract From the Canadian patent

An aqueous liquid combination of simple and complex fluorides a chelating , agent for iron, phosphate ions a hydroxyla-, mine source, and an oxidizing agent selected from among water soluble nitroaromatic organic compounds, molybdates and tung-, states, provides good quality protective phosphate conversion coatings on ferrous, zinciferous, aluminous, and magnesium and magnesium alloy metal surfaces, without needing any divalent or higher valent metal cations such as are generally used to produce high quality phosphate conversion coatings. If the combination includes suitable surfactants, no prior chemical cleaning of the metal to be treated is required for good results.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed October 28, 1992 and granted December 30, 2003. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended October 28, 2012.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by October 28, 2014.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
