Abstract From the Canadian patent

Methods are disclosed which may be used for the production of antibodies, or antibody fragments which, have the same binding specificity as a parent antibody but which have increased human characteristics. Humanised antibodies may be obtained by chain shuffling perhaps using, phage display technology. In one embodiment a polypep-, tide comprising a heavy or light chain variable domain of a non-human antibody specific for an antigen of interest is combined with a repertoire of human complementary (light or heavy) chain variable domains. Hybrid pairings which are specific for the antigen of interest are selected. Human chains from the selected pairings may then be combined with a repertoire …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed September 23, 1992 and granted October 1, 2002. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended September 23, 2012.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by September 23, 2014.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
