A universally installable climate control system for aftermarket installation in a motor vehicle which includes a heater valve (26) which is controlled by the system (12) and is connected in the supply line to the heater core of the originally installed heater/air conditioner (20). Additionally, a closed loop climate control system is employed which renders the system transparent to the type of motor vehicle in which it is installed, since the closed loop system ensures that a desired passenger compartment temperature is achieved substantially, independent of the operating characteristics of the motor vehicle.

Why it's free to use
- Filed August 2, 1993 and granted May 5, 1998. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended August 2, 2013.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by August 2, 2015.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
