closing instrument that is placed between the lid of a container (eg paint, glue, finishes, etc) and the tool used to pound it shut. The closing tool serves as an intermediary object which protects the container and the lid from becoming deformed. It has an L-shaped extruded rigid structure; the upper part which is horizontal, is designed to receive the blows from the pounding tool. The other part which is vertical, lies on the lid, preferably in the groove thereof.

Why it's free to use
- Filed October 18, 1994 and granted June 24, 1997. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended October 18, 2014.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by October 18, 2016.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
