Abstract From the Canadian patent

The present invention is directed to a method of apparatus of enhancing the signal-to-noise ratio of a microphone array. The array includes a plurality of microphones and has a directivity pattern which is adjustable based on one or more parameters. The parameters are evaluated so as to realize an angular orientation of a directivity pattern . This angular orientation of the directivity pattern reduces microphone array output signal level. Parameter evaluation is performed under a constraint that the be located within a predetermined region of space. Advantageously the predetermined region of space is a region from which undesired acoustic energy is expected to impinge upon the array and …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed October 12, 1994 and granted September 15, 1998. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended October 12, 2014.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by October 12, 2016.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
