Abstract From the Canadian patent

A three-axis stabilized, earth-oriented satellite has an attitude control system with regulators actuators, an earth sensor that carries out measurements along two axes and a sun-sensor arrangement that also carries out measurements along two axes. The field of view of the sunsensor arrangement covers the round angle on a plane of the satellite-fixed coordinate system. Only the sun-sensor arrangement and the earth sensor act as measurement transducers. A sun and earth acquisition process for such a satellite has the following steps: seeking the sun; setting the sun vector in a first direction of reference; setting the speed of rotation of the satellite around the sun vector at a constant …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed September 4, 1992 and granted November 12, 2002. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended September 4, 2012.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by September 4, 2014.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
